
Hampton Palace Gardens, the Privy Garden which was reconstructed during 1992 - 1995, nearly 500 years after it was originally planted. Research prior to the reconstruction included historic documents, paintings, and archeological excavation of the site. |
The prominent but tiny 6-inch tall by 6 inch wide) English boxwood hedges are the "lines" of the design. Thirty thousand of these plants, from 6-inch containers, were used in the reconstructed garden. Several strains of the shrubby English boxwood cultivar, `Suffruticosa' from the Netherlands, England and France were tested. Finally, the English cultivar was chosen. |
