Joshua tree, the namesake of Joshua Tree National Park
This Joshua tree is probably 8 to 10 years old.
Joshua trees may increase in height by about 1/2 inch per year.
Leaves will only form on ocotillos if the stems are wet.
Cholla Cactus Garden, Joshua Tree National Park. Chollas are also called 'Jumping Cactus.'
Each whorl of leaves represents a year's growth.
Flowers of the ocotillo appear in late winter and spring.
